On February 27, Dublin-based ZEUS Mobility announced it had acquired Superpedestrian Europe, combining two companies with very different histories into one. ZEUS brings a profitable operating model and a growing fleet across dozens of European cities. Superpedestrian brings technology, advanced safety systems and AI-driven fleet management built over 5 years.

The deal was led by ZEUS Founder and CEO Damian Young, together with Julian Alexander Hahn and Mats Andre Breesth, the co-founders of SURF who have served as Co-CEOs of Superpedestrian Europe since acquiring its European business in 2024.

How Superpedestrian Got Here

Superpedestrian built its reputation on engineering. Founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company raised over $125m and expanded to more than 60 cities worldwide. Its core product was a patented vehicle intelligence system designed to monitor and correct mechanical issues in real time, a genuine technical differentiator in a crowded market.

In late 2023, the company closed its US operations and began exploring a sale of its European business. SURF, the Oslo-based micromobility operator led by Hahn and Breesth, stepped in and acquired the European arm in 2024. Under their stewardship, Superpedestrian continued operating across key European markets, retaining core fleet assets and its technology platform while restructuring the business for long-term sustainability.

The acquisition by ZEUS marks the next chapter for that technology, now integrated into a company that has already demonstrated it can run a profitable operation at scale.

"Superpedestrian built one of the most advanced safety and fleet technology platforms in micromobility over the past decade. This acquisition ensures that technology scales with discipline.

The European market is moving decisively beyond growth-at-any-cost. In micromobility, unit economics are fundamental. Asset lifetime, utilisation, and disciplined cost control ultimately determine which operators endure. ZEUS has already demonstrated profitable execution under these conditions. By integrating this technology and fleet into our operating platform, we further strengthen the economic foundation of the business and materially reinforce our structural position in the market.

We are building a structurally resilient company designed for durability, efficiency, and sustained expansion across Europe."

Profitable, Disciplined, and Now Acquiring

ZEUS Mobility was founded in Ireland in 2020. While much of the micromobility sector prioritised rapid expansion, ZEUS focused on building an operation that could sustain itself financially.

By the time of the Superpedestrian acquisition, it operated in more than 40 European locations, had crossed €5m in annual revenue, and achieved positive EBITDA, a rare milestone in a sector that has undergone widespread restructuring.

This is not ZEUS's first acquisition. In August 2022, it acquired UK e-scooter operator Zwings. In April 2023, it bought Ireland-based Zipp Mobility, extending its footprint to more than 50 locations across 9 countries including the UK, Italy, and Poland.

Following the acquisition, ZEUS plans to deploy up to 20k vehicles across 30 European locations over the next 12 months. That rollout will run alongside its next-generation e-bikes and ZOLAR™ solar-powered charging infrastructure, a differentiator in markets where cities pay close attention to the environmental and logistical footprint of shared mobility operators.

Superpedestrian's safety systems and AI-driven fleet management, refined over 5 years, will now be fully integrated into ZEUS's European operations. The company expects this to increase vehicle uptime, extend asset lifespan, and sharpen real-time operational intelligence, all of which directly affect cost efficiency and margins.

"This acquisition marks a defining step in ZEUS' development. The European micromobility market is entering a new phase defined by financial discipline, technological depth, and durable city partnerships. By combining Superpedestrian's technology with our proven operating model, we are building a platform designed not just for growth, but for long-term resilience."
