Voi, Ryde & Bolt wins the tender to operate e-scooters in Oslo. The latest tender is for a period of two years and all three companies will operate a total of 16k vehicles with 3x the current operational area. The change will take effect from April 2025.
Bird bikes will not return to Chittenden County, Vermont, in spring 2025 due to cost and revenue concerns. The bikeshare system operated in Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski starting in July 2023, completing 50k rides.
In response to community feedback, Yarra Council in Australia will geofence all footpaths narrower than two metres as no-parking zones by the end of January 2025, preventing trips from ending in these areas. To improve accessibility and safety, the Council is also expanding designated and virtual parking bays at key locations.
On X, Martin Lefrancq from Brussels Mobility raised concerns on the reliability of such a solution.
New data from Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism (via AMBE) shows a 2.9% increase in domestic bike production in 2024, reaching 309k units. However, a drop in average bike prices, falling from €775 in 2023 to €725 in 2024 led to a 2.2% decline in production-related turnover.
Voi e-scooters will be available throughout the day starting February 10 in Northampton. The City Council has launched a 6 month trial to assess the benefits of extended hours. The e-scooter scheme was extended until 2026 last summer.
Oonee and Swobbee have secured a $3.7M federal grant to build 30+ new micromobility parking and charging stations - 20 in Minneapolis, 10 in Jersey City, addressing bike theft and unsafe battery charging. In New York, 25% of households have faced bike theft, and uncertified batteries have caused 545+ fires, 24 fatalities since 2022.

In Philippines, Moovr expects rider usage to grow by 25-35% in 2025 as it expands its fleet and network. The company onboarded 300k users last year, bringing its total users to 600k, and now operates 350 e-scooters and 200 bikes. In 2024, Moovr surpassed 1m rides.
China is encouraging citizens to trade in Lithium-Ion e-bikes for safer Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA) models, citing fire risks. The government offers subsidies for the switch, with old e-bikes sent for recycling. Meanwhile, Sodium-Ion batteries emerge as a potential alternative.
Swansea Council is considering e-scooter trial, which would be the first of its kind in Wales. Cardiff has also expressed interest in launching a trial. The council will evaluate the benefits and determine future actions.
Warwickshire Police cracked down on illegal e-scooter use, seizing 45 vehicles in the Nuneaton and Bedworth region. The confiscated e-scooters will be crushed following a week long operation.
Ario e-scooters are launched in Christchurch on Feb 4, 2025, under a 5-year license. The three-wheeled design features 360º cameras to tackle parking issues. Lime and Ario will be allowed a maximum fleet of 1k vehicles each (e-scooters+e-bikes).
