What You Need to Know Today

Motorcycle giant Yamaha revealed patent filings that indicate a production-ready electric motocross bike is on the horizon. Perhaps more interestingly for motocross riders, the filings include a patent for the electric drivetrain to behave like a conventional clutch and transmission.

Taiwanese moped brand Kymco is collaborating with LiveWire to develop new models. The drawings of the Kymco RevoNEX and SuperNEX appear to share LiveWire platforms.

Real Motors is a new player in the 2-wheeler EV space but looks to make a statement in the market with its futuristic, cafe-racer-styled Ares.

Fantic Netherlands partnered with Swiss startup Lizcat GmbH to produce 2 electrified versions of the popular Fantic XEF. Both the XE1 4.0 and the more powerful XE1 5.0 models feature a Lizcat electric drivetrain that is adapted to fit perfectly on the enduro XEF chassis.

Unfortunately, the $128,000 Arc Vector electric motorcycle won’t become a reality. The builder, Arc V, Ltd, went into liquidation in March, but the Arc founder, Mark Truman, is looking for other opportunities to bring the company back to life.

ENVO Drive Systems will launch a recumbent electrified three-wheeler called the Veemo. It will be available in two options: the Veemo SE, which is a semi-enclosed version costing $6,199, and the topless Veemo LT will go for $4,649.

This week, Canyon Cycles announced the Neuron:ONfly. At 45 lbs (20.4kg), the Neuron:ONfly pushes the boundaries of how light a 140mm travel e-MTB with full-power assistance can be.

Tern introduced what it says is the first Bosch-powered e-bikes in Taiwan. Starting this May, the Tern Vektron and Tern Quick Haul will be available for sale at local bike shops around the country.  

Pedego announced 3 new models: an e-cargo bike, a fat tire moped-styled e-bike, and a fat tire e-trike. These new models have a fresh style that departs from the casual cruiser and leisure e-bikes that comprise Pedego’s lineup.

Greaves Electric Mobility Private Limited announced the highly anticipated Ampere Nexus electric moped starting at $1,300 ​​(Rs 1.10 lakh). Targeted for family utility, the Ampere has a 3 kWh battery pack that delivers 4 kW peak power and a range of 136km.

A new whitepaper sheds light on the practical applications of new IoT technologies, including GNSS, for micromobility use-cases.

Fiido wants to simplify the urban riding experience with the minimalist Air Carbon. This carbon fiber e-bike weighs a mere 29 lbs (13 kg) but still includes innovative features like frame-integrated front and rear lights, a carbon belt drive, and a fingerprint sensor to lock and unlock the e-bike. The regular price will be $2,799, but those who pre-order will receive a $1,000 discount.

A new survey shows many Americans are open to buying cheaper (and many cases, smaller) Chinese electric cars.

New from Trek is the CarBack, a rear-facing light and radar unit that communicates with a GPS-enabled cycling computer or smartphone to let you know the position and speed of vehicles approaching behind you from up to 787 ft. (240m).
