Neuron and Beam Are Merging to Dominate APAC’s Micromobility Market

Asia’s micromobility landscape just got a lot more concentrated.

Neuron Mobility and Beam Mobility, the two leading e-scooter operators founded in Singapore, have announced plans to merge, creating what the companies claim will be the largest shared micromobility operator in the Asia-Pacific region.

The deal, structured as a preliminary merger agreement, brings together two of the best-funded and most operationally advanced players in the region. The combined business will operate in more than 100 cities across APAC, North America, and beyond, maintaining both brand identities.

Post-merger, Neuron co-founder and CEO Zachary Wang will lead the company as Global CEO, while Beam CEO Alan Jiang, a former Uber APAC exec, will take on the role of Asia CEO.

The merger is expected to close within 60 days, pending regulatory approvals and customary conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

A Merger of Equals and Opposites

While both companies emerged from Singapore’s startup ecosystem, they’ve taken different paths to growth. Neuron has focused on tightly regulated markets like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, winning city contracts with a reputation for safety and compliance. Beam has gone broader, scaling rapidly across South Korea, Southeast Asia, Türkiye, and recently entering the U.S. market.

“The companies are highly complementary in both their geographic footprints and operating models,” Wang said in a statement. “Together, we’re positioned to scale profitably while partnering more effectively with cities.”

Jiang added that the combined company would focus on becoming the “clear leader in the region, both in terms of market share and long-term sustainability.”

Consolidation in a Tightening Market

The micromobility sector has faced a reckoning over the last two years, with many operators struggling to turn a profit amid tightening regulations, rising vehicle costs, and reduced VC appetite. Beam raised $93 million in a Series B round in 2022 and has since focused on operational efficiency and unit economics. Neuron, backed by the likes of GSR Ventures and Square Peg, has long positioned itself as a partner-first operator aligned with government priorities.

The merger comes as operators globally rethink how to survive and thrive in a post-growth-at-all-costs environment.

What Neuron and Beam are betting on is scale and specialization. The ability to serve cities with compliant tech, profitable operations, and local partnerships may now matter more than blitzscaling or market domination alone.
