Upway Raises $60 Million in Series C Funding

E-bike refurbishment company Upway has secured $60m in Series C funding, valuing the company at around $400m. The investment will support its goal of refurbishing a million e-bikes by 2030. Upway acquires, professionally refurbishes, and resells used e-bikes through its specialized facilities, offering customers an average savings of 45% compared to new models. The company, which currently operates six centers in the U.S. and Europe, plans to open at least six more locations within two years.

Shimano Sales Grow 5% While Profits Fall 27%

Component manufacturer Shimano reported a 5% increase in bicycle division sales to €1.6B for the first three quarters of 2025, but saw operating income fall 27% to €181m. The profit decline was primarily driven by a €110m foreign exchange loss and higher costs, despite strong demand for its premium mountain bike groupsets.

The company maintained its full-year forecast, expecting a 29% drop in operating profit amid a mixed global inventory landscape and economic uncertainty.

URWAHN Expands Premium Retail Presence

URWAHN Bikes is expanding its premium retail footprint through an exclusive partnership with BREUNINGER, becoming the first bicycle brand to appear on the luxury retailer’s digital platform. At the same time, URWAHN has opened a dedicated Brand Space in Berlin with its mobility partner BICICLI. The expansion showcases URWAHN’s award-winning, German-made 3D-printed bikes, the STADTFUCHS urban bike and the WALDWIESEL gravel bike, which are fully customizable and delivered within 21 days. This strategic move strengthens URWAHN’s position in high-end, sustainable mobility, blending digital accessibility with immersive, in-person brand experiences.

Florida E-Bike Safety Bill

A new Florida bill, introduced by Republican lawmakers, aims to strengthen traffic safety laws by integrating electric bicycles, motorized scooters, and electric motorcycles into the state’s regulatory framework. Key provisions include creating a separate state database for crash statistics involving these vehicles and making it illegal to modify an e-bike to increase its speed, with fines for violations. The bill defines a new “Class 3 E-Bike” category for faster models, which would require riders to have a learner’s permit or driver’s license. It also updates driver education to include content on sharing the road with e-bikes and imposes age restrictions on operating powerful models. If passed, the law would take effect in July 2027.

Neuron E-Scooters Boost Local Economies

Neuron Mobility concluded a record e-scooter season in four Canadian communities, Lacombe, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, and Red Deer, where riders traveled over 333.5k kms. The service has become a significant transportation option for commuting and errands. Notably, over 62% of trips included a purchase, contributing an estimated $5.8m to the local economy. Neuron, which operates in 17 Canadian municipalities, highlighted the role of its e-scooters in providing sustainable travel and supporting local businesses.

Uklon’s E-Scooter Expansion Hits Valuation Roadblock

Uklon’s plans to enter the Ukrainian e-scooter rental market is on hold after its acquisition talks with operator Jet stalled due to a valuation gap. While Uklon, owned by Kyivstar, was interested in competing with rival Bolt, the parties disagreed on price: Jet sought $12-15m, while Uklon offered $8-10m. Uklon may now seek a compromise or turn to alternative local operators, as it continues to pursue a micromobility strategy to create synergies with its core ride-hailing service.

Berlin Expands Traffic Light Assistants for Cyclists

Berlin is expanding its VeloFlow pilot project, installing new traffic light assistants for cyclists on Invalidenstraße. The system uses LED displays to show a bicycle symbol; a green background indicates the next light will be green, while red means it will be red, allowing cyclists to adjust their speed. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the project aims to improve traffic flow and make cycling more attractive. The location on Invalidenstraße, with its complex and frequently adjusted traffic light sequences due to public transport priority, serves as a challenging real-world test to evaluate the system’s reliability and identify areas for further development.

Microlino May Shift Production to China

Swiss microcar manufacturer, Microlino, is considering moving production to China due to a lack of regulatory and financial support in Europe. The founding Ouboter family has criticized European policies, noting that vehicles in the Microlino’s category do not receive subsidies, tax breaks, or CO₂ credits, yet face import duties. With production costs in China estimated to be half of those in Europe, and with the added incentive of potential Chinese investment and subsidies, the company warns that if European support does not improve, production will likely relocate.

NIU Microcar Moves Towards Production

NIU is moving its NIUMM electric microcar into production after finishing certification. The L6e-class quadricycle shares batteries and drivetrain with NIU’s NQi scooters, offers around 70 km range at 45 km/h, and can double its range with extra batteries. Sales are expected to start in 2026.

Rochester Ridership Up Before the Winter Pause

City of Rochester and Veo recorded over 567k shared scooter and bike trips in the 2025 season, a 33% increase from last year. The system has become especially valuable for lower-income and non-driving households, reinforcing its role in an equitable, multimodal transportation network. As winter approaches, Veo will suspend services in mid-December, with the vehicles returning in spring 2026.

Forest Introduces Tiered Pricing

Forest has launched a new tiered pricing scheme to address the issue of dockless e-bikes cluttering London’s pavements. Instead of a standard free period, users now see bikes labeled with 1-5, 10, or 30-minute tiers after paying a £1 unlock fee. The system incentivizes riders to choose bikes from over-supplied areas, aiding fleet rebalancing and reducing operational energy consumption by 50%, minimizing support vehicle use.

Marin Launches First Electric Drop Bar Bike

Marin Bikes has introduced its first electric drop bar model, the Lombard E. This multi-surface bike features a Bosch SX Sprint motor delivering 60Nm of torque and a 400Wh removable battery. Designed as a versatile “dream machine” rather than just a motorized gravel bike, it accommodates up to 50mm tires and includes multiple mounting points for accessories. Two versions are available: the Lombard E1 starting at $4,299 with mechanical GRX shifting, and the higher-end E1 at $5,299 featuring wireless Di2 shifting and a dropper seatpost.

Citroën Unveils Surf-Inspired Ami Buggy Concept

Citroën has partnered with surf brand Rip Curl to create a special edition of its Ami Buggy quadricycle. Designed for beachgoers and surfers, the “Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision” concept features practical additions like surfboard mounts, a waterproof storage bin, a portable shower, and floor mats made from recycled wetsuits. The vehicle is aimed at promoting accessible electric micromobility for younger generations, though it has not yet been confirmed for mass production.

Scott Launches Discreet Fastlane E-Road Bike

Swiss cycling brand Scott has introduced the Fastlane, a new range of subtle e-road bikes designed to look and feel like a traditional road bike. Built around an 865g carbon frame with the same geometry as Scott’s non-electric Addict model, the bike features a nearly hidden TQ HPR40 motor that provides up to 40Nm of torque and assists up to 25km/h. The system includes a 290Wh battery, a minimalist bar-end display, and controls integrated into the shifters. Three models are available, starting at £6,399, with weights ranging from 9.9kg to 11.1kg.

Cannondale Launches FlyingV Carbon Commuter E-Bike

American bicycle brand Cannondale has introduced the FlyingV, its first full-carbon frame commuter e-bike that includes integrated carbon fiber mudguards. The bike features a Bosch Performance Line SX motor with 60 Nm of torque and a 400Wh battery, promising up to 115 km of range. Designed for urban riding, it uses a Gates belt drive and Shimano internal gear hub for minimal maintenance, includes integrated lights powered by the main battery, and features a rear pannier rack with an 18kg capacity. The FlyingV emphasizes lightweight construction, practical utility, and a comfortable upright riding position.
