Charging as a Service with Marcus Adolfsson, CEO of Standab

In this episode of the Micromobility Podcast, Prabin Joel Jones speaks with Marcus Adolfsson, CEO of Standab, about one of the most overlooked yet critical parts of shared micromobility: charging infrastructure.

Veo is expanding its e-scooter service in New Haven, with around 150 scooters set to launch in Fair Haven and Beaver Hills in May. The expansion follows the program’s 2025 launch, which introduced shared scooters across the city and has since recorded over 100k rides from 15k users, highlighting strong adoption. Part of New Haven’s “Safe Routes for All” initiative, the next phase aims to increase access while maintaining order through a hub-based parking system. The rollout will also include seated scooters to make the service more inclusive and accessible.

E-Bikes Power Spain’s Cycling Market Shift

Spain’s bicycle market is starting to steady after a sharp post-pandemic comedown, but the reset is still playing out. Total sales dropped to 1.1m units in 2025, a steep fall from 1.6m units in 2021, when the market comprised 1.35m bicycles and 0.22m e-bikes, as the industry continues to work through excess stock and softer demand. By 2025, that mix had shifted to 0.86m bicycles and 0.24m e-bikes, highlighting a gradual move toward electrification during weaker demand periods.

What’s emerging, however, is less a slump than a shift. E-bikes are increasingly anchoring the market, pushing the average selling price up to ~€1.28k and accounting for 55.4% of urban bicycle sales. While traditional segments remain under pressure, electrification is cushioning the decline and reshaping where value sits. As inventories normalize, the Spanish market is moving away from volume-driven growth toward a more premium, e-bike-led footing.

Sydney Delivery Riders Hit by E-Bike Theft Surge

Delivery riders across Sydney are facing a rise in e-bike and scooter thefts, with multiple incidents reported in recent weeks, often occurring within minutes during deliveries. Riders, many of them students, say the losses, ranging from $1.2k to $1.7k bikes, have had a major financial impact, with recovery chances described as extremely low. Authorities have urged riders to lock bikes, record serial numbers, and take precautions, as investigations continue into the spike in targeted thefts.

Charleston Considers E-Bike Pathway Ban

Officials in Charleston, a coastal city in the southeastern United States, are reviewing a proposed ordinance that would ban e-bikes from protected pathways, including the West Ashley Greenway and the upcoming Ashley River Crossing. The move aims to address safety concerns over reckless riding, particularly among younger users. However, advocates warn the rule could push riders onto busy roads, making travel less safe for commuters and those relying on e-bikes for mobility. The proposal remains under discussion and will be reviewed further before a final decision by city council.
