Mayten Acquires Majority Interest in Micromobility Industries

Mayten has acquired a majority interest in Micromobility Industries, the leading global media brand for small electric vehicles. This follows Mayten’s 2024 acquisition of Cogo, further expanding its presence in the mobility sector. Horace Dediu and James Gross will stay onboard as Co-founders, with Prabin Joel Jones stepping in as CEO of Micromobility Industries.

Citi Bike Hikes Prices for Second Time in 6 Months

Niu Technologies Reports Q4 Sales

In Q4 2024, Niu Technologies sold 226.6k units, including 182.3k units in China and 44.3k units internationally. For the full year, total sales reached 924.3k units, with 759k units sold in China and 165k units sold overseas. New models contributed to 70% of Q4 sales, and the company saw strong growth in micromobility, with a 65% quarterly and 57% annual increase in sales.

Southeast UK Police Warn of £300 Fines

Southeast UK Police have issued a warning to new e-scooter owners about illegal use, including riding on pavements, which could result in a £300 fine. E-scooters are only permitted in approved trial areas and remain illegal on public roads. Since 2019/20, over 400 e-scooters have been confiscated for violating these rules.

Chino Hills Bans E-Bikes, Scooters on Sidewalks

The Chino Hills City Council in California voted to ban e-bikes and motorized scooters on sidewalks starting January 9. Violations carry fines of $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second, and up to $500 for subsequent offenses within a year.

Glasgow Expands Cycle Storage Units

Glasgow is adding 500 new on-street cycle storage units, providing 3,000 more secure spaces for residents, especially those in flats. Following a successful 2021 trial and a £2.5m contract with Cyclehoop, 120 units will be installed yearly, with expansion possible.

Uber signed a $1.5B accelerated share repurchase agreement with Bank of America, part of its $7B buyback program. The company will receive 18.6m shares, retiring over 1% of its market cap, with completion expected by Q1 2025.
